Kitchen Sink

Use cold water -- not hot -- to operate your food disposal. That saves the energy needed to heat water, is recommended for the appliance, and aids in getting rid of grease. Since grease solidifies in cold water, it can be ground up and washed away.

Scrape dishes before loading them into the dishwasher instead of wasting water by using the dishwasher's "rinse hold" setting.

When washing dishes by hand, use a sink stopper or dishpan and run the hot water as little as possible. Rinse your dishes in cold water.
